[HPR1000 News]Reactor central arch installed at Fangchenggang NPP
The central arch of Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant Unit 3 was successfully installed on May 19 in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
The plant, using domestically developed Hualong One technology (HPR1000), has thus far completed one-month installation of polar crane, which is one of the most important tasks before dome installation can proceed.
Lining the top of the inner side of the reactor, the polar crane is one of the most important components of a nuclear power project.
It is used to hoist and install main equipment such as pressure vessels and steam generators. It also serves as a main crane for reactor refueling and equipment maintenance when the NPP is in operation.
According to Guo Zonglin, deputy general manager of China General Nuclear Power Engineering Co, the dome installation of Fangchenggang NPP Unit 3 is expected to be completed by the end of May, ahead of schedule.
The project uses Hualong One technology, a third-generation reactor design, which draws on the experience in design, construction, commissioning and operation of the existing pressurized water reactors in China and their latest research results. The technology is a strong competitor in domestic and overseas nuclear power markets.
The dome installation of Unit 3 is about to take place, which is testimony to China's strong strength in nuclear power research design, engineering construction and equipment manufacturing.
A pioneer in Chinese nuclear industry’s going global, CGN signed a package of cooperation agreements with Electricité de France (EDF) in 2016 to collaborate on the British projects: Hinkley Point C (HPC), Sizewell C (SZC) and Bradwell B projects (BRB).
The proposed BRB project will use Hualong One technology and takes the second phase of the Fangchenggang NPP as its reference.
At present, Hualong One technology is in the second phase of the UK's General Design Assessment (GDA) and is expected to enter the third phase this year.
CGN has been making efforts to expand the applications of Hualong One technology in Central and Eastern Europe, Africa and Southeast Asia.
