Cold functional test! Another“HPR1000”nuclear power unit welcomes a major milestone!

At 9:28 on December 22, cold functional tests at Unit 1 of Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power Project of China General Nuclear (CGN) commenced smoothly as scheduled.

Witnessed jointly by MEE South China Nuclear and Radiation Oversight Station and representatives of participating construction entities, the on-duty shift supervisor of Operation Department issued the cold function test permit to the test supervisor, marking the official start of cold functional test of Unit 1 of CGN Taipingling NPP and the transition of project construction from the peak time of installation to the stage joint commissioning test. This indicates that the batch construction of CGN “HPR1000” has advanced to a new level.

Taipingling Nuclear Power Project plans to construct 6×1,000 MW “HPR1000” nuclear power units in three phases. Currently, Phase I project is moving forward steadily and its two units are expected to be put into operation and generate electricity in 2025 one after another. A single unit will provide nearly 10 billion kilowatt-hours of clean power annually to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, which can meet the annual electricity demand for production and household consumption and play an important role in promoting local economic development, ensuring energy security, optimizing energy structure and protecting the ecological environment.
