CGN Guangxu  Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Station Unit 4 Successfully Connected to the Grid

At 20:29 on April 9, 2024, Unit 4 of the CGN Guangxi Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Station was successfully connected to the grid for the first time, which demonstrated its capability of power generation, marking a crucial step towards its commercial operation.

During the grid connection process, all parameters of Unit 4 of the Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Station were normal and stable, and the unit was in good condition. A series of tests will be carried out as planned to further verify the various performance conditions required for the unit's commercial operation, and it is expected to be put into high-quality production in the first half of this year.


As the first nuclear power station in the western and ethnic minority regions of China, the two units of the first phase of the Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Station have been in commercial operation since 2016. Units 3 and 4 of the second phase are HPR1000 demonstration projects, among which the first HPR1000 unit in the western region of ChinaUnit 3 of the Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Stationwas put into operation on March 25, 2023.  It has been operating safely and reliably in its first cycle, with capacity factor reaching 98.2% in 2023, setting the best record for domestic third-generation reactors.


The cumulative on-grid power generation of the three operating units at Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Station has exceeded 120 billion kilowatt-hours. Compared with coal-fired power plants of the same scale, this is equivalent to reducing standard coal consumption by more than 36.24 million tons and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by about 98.88 million tons, equivalent to planting 270,000 hectares of forest. This is of great significance for implementing the national "dual carbon" strategy, building a new type of energy system, optimizing Guangxi's energy structure, and promoting high-quality economic and social development in Guangxi.
