On October 18, the cumulative on-grid power generation of the four units of Phase I of CGN's Fujian Ningde Nuclear Power plant reached over 300 billion kilowatt-hours, equivalent to reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by over 247 million tons, standard coal consumption by 90.21 million tons, and 675,000 hectares of afforestation. Since the commercial operation of the first unit on April 15, 2013, Ningde Nuclear Power plant has continuously generated green energy for the economic development of Fujian, strongly supporting the construction of a cross-strait integration development demonstration zone.
The Ningde Nuclear Power Project, located in Taimushan Town, Fuding City, Ningde, Fujian Province, is planned to build a total of six gigawatt-level nuclear power units, in one-off planning and constructed in phases. Phase I of the Ningde Nuclear Power Project adopts the mature second-generation improved pressurized water reactor nuclear power technology (CPR1000), with an overall equipment localization rate of 80%, and a total installed capacity of 4.356 MW. Units 5 and 6 of Phase II adopt China's homegrown third-generation nuclear power technology HPR1000 with proprietary intellectual property rights and officially began construction on July 28, 2024.
Since its construction, Ningde Nuclear Power plant has rigorously managed the safety control of nuclear power unit operations and construction, with 41 WANO indicators reaching advanced level and 40 reaching excellent level as of September 2024, maintaining an advanced WANO indicator ratio of over 80% for five consecutive years. Ningde Unit 4 has operated safely for 3000 consecutive days since commercial operation, which set an example of world-class operational performance for similar units. In October this year, the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) held its 17th Biennial Meeting in Abu Dhabi, UAE, where the list of nuclear power plants achieving AfE target in 2024 was announced and Ningde Nuclear Power plant is one of the six CGN nuclear power plants on the list.
