On Feb. 8, Module 2 of the nuclear island steel liner for the reactor building at Unit 1 of CGN's Shandong Zhaoyuan Nuclear Power Project was successfully hoisted. The operation was conducted smoothly with safety and quality fully managed, facilitating subsequent construction phases.
Module 2 of the steel liner comprises the first and second layers of the cylinder, weighing 157 tons, with a total hoisting weight of 245 tons. A 2,000-ton crawler crane was utilized for a one-time integrated lift, completing a sequence of lifting, rotating, traveling with load, and lowering. With this module in place, the steel liner construction has reached an elevation of +6.8 meters. This progress will help remove the containment construction from the critical path earlier, reduce cross-construction between the reactor building and adjacent facilities, and ensure the steady advancement of the nuclear island plant.

To ensure a successful operation, the construction management team at Zhaoyuan Nuclear Power applied experience and best practices from the previous hoisting of Module 1 and the reactor pit concrete module. The team analyzed on-site meteorological data, managed the adverse effects of low temperatures, and systematically verified all prerequisites. These preparations ensured the hoisting objectives were met.

The successful hoisting of Module 2 marks the completion of the critical path construction tasks for the nuclear island at Unit 1 ahead of the Spring Festival, paving the way for further critical path work after the holiday.
