Main Works of Unit 4 of the CGN Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power Project Officially Commenced

On May 10, 2026, the first concrete pour (First Concrete Date, FCD) for the nuclear island of Unit 4 of the CGN Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power Project marked the official commencement of the main works for the unit and the comprehensive launch of the construction of Phase II of the Taipingling Nuclear Power Project.

The Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power Project is the first nuclear power project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to adopt Hualong One, China's self-developed third-generation nuclear power technology. Based on the average annual utilization hours of domestic nuclear power in 2025, Unit 4 is expected to achieve annual power generation exceeding 9 billion kWh upon completion, meeting the annual electricity needs of approximately 1 million people. The reactor building raft foundation poured this time is a cylinder with a radius of 27 meters and a height of 3.7 meters, involving a total concrete pouring volume of approximately 8,600 cubic meters. The estimated continuous construction duration is about 60 hours.

Since the start of construction for the Phase II Project of Taipingling Nuclear Power, the project team, led by independent innovation, has comprehensively implemented "modularization, mechanization, automation, digital-intelligentization, and intrinsic safety", with over 700 improvement measures already put into practice. Among them, the on-site 3D integrated design center has achieved "one-click integration" between design drawings and construction data, allowing rebar arrangement and pipeline routing to be validated in the model before being executed according to the plan. At the same time, several new technologies, such as the optimization of the integrated door-frame construction scheme and the optimization of construction organization for the nuclear island raft foundation, have been applied for the first time in CGN nuclear power projects, accumulating replicable experience for the batch construction of Hualong One.

The Taipingling Nuclear Power Project is planned to consist of 6 Hualong One nuclear power units to be built in three phases. 4 units have been approved now. Unit 1 was commissioned for power generation on April 20,2026. Unit 2 completed its first fuel loading on May 3, 2026, and has officially entered the nuclear commissioning stage. Unit 3's main works commenced on June 10, 2025, and is currently in the peak period of civil construction, progressing steadily overall.
